1LC 2017/18

Welcome to 1LC’s class page!

Part 1

Part 2

Part 3

We have had a wonderful start to this half term.

We have been busy exploring all the different areas in our new classroom including the creative area, the construction area, the home corner and the reading corner. We have also been enjoying the sunshine in our lovely outdoor area.
In English, this half term we are studying ‘Mr Big’ and will be writing letters to Mr Big to invite him to join our jazz band. We have been experimenting with musical instruments and using drama and props to recreate the story.
We have also looked at ‘Whatever Next’ by Jill Murphy. This has inspired lots of lovely writing such as making lists of things we would like to take with us to the moon and rewriting the story! Next half term in English we will be looking at ‘Supetato’, ‘The Velveteen Rabbit’ and ‘Rumplestiltskin’.
In Maths, we are looking at ordering numbers and identifying one more or one less than a number. We have also been working on our addition and subtraction!
Our PE slots are Tuesday and Thursday, please make sure you bring your PE kit on these days.
As part of Art Week, we have been creating self portraits using water colours and wax crayons. You will be able to see our art work at the Art Exhibition in October.
Our Topic this term is ‘Our Local Area’. We went for a walk around Dulwich and saw lots of places that were very familiar to us such as North Dulwich Station and Sunray Gardens. It was a lot of fun!
In Science, we will be looking at Seasonal Change this term. We have been busy learning the months of the year and talking about different seasons. We have also made a rain catcher to measure rainfall in our courtyard and have been learning how to read a thermometer to measure changes in temperature.
It was Big Draw week on the last week of this half term. We looked at the theme of ‘Living Lines’ and designed and made a thaumatrope which were very popular as Victorian children’s toys. You can see some pictures of our workshop below!+-
We hope you have a restful half term!

Autumn 2

We have had a brilliant half term. We had a fantastic trip to the Unicorn Theatre to see ‘The Velveteen Rabbit’ and a trip to Sainsbury’s to look at fruit and vegetables. We have also visited Dulwich Library and each borrowed a book of our choice.
In our Art lessons, we created artwork inspired by Guiseppe Arcimboldo out of fruit and vegetables. In computing, we used iPads to film videos of each other making superfood salads. We all had a go at being a TV chef and presenting our own cookery show and filming and editing it.
In English, we have been looking at the story of  ‘Rumplestilskin’. We have been doing lots of drama and descriptive writing!
In Maths, we have been learning about money and learning to tell the time!
We hope you have a fantastic rest over Christmas, and looking forward to seeing you all back in January.
Happy New Year!

Spring
In Topic we have been learning about ‘Looking after our World’. Here are some of the globes that we made to show the continents and the oceans.
In our English lessons, we looked at the story of Hansel and Gretel. We acted the story out in a story whoosh!
We also had a DT day and designed and created our own cages!

We also looked at the book ‘Dear Greenpeace’. We wrote letters to our friends about whales and performed some poetry about whales in small groups.

In Science, we have been learning about ‘Animals Including Humans’. We looked at the human body and our senses!
We also took part in a dance workshop to celebrate Chinese New Year.
Summer
We took a trip to Kew Gardens as part of our Rainforest topic! It was a very hot and sunny day and we enjoyed a stroll around the Palm House and a workshop all about Amazon plants!
We have been doing lots of art and design technology this half term, creating some paintings inspired by the French artist Henri Rousseau, making our own hand puppets and printing with some students from JAGS!
