1LC 2018/19

Welcome to 1LC!

We’ve had a brilliant start to the Autumn Term! We’ve begun by creating some art work for our art exhibition. The theme this year was animals and have created artwork inspired by aboriginal art. Have a look at some of our artwork in the photos below!

We have started this half term looking at the book ‘Mr. Big’ by Ed Vere. We have really enjoyed acting out the story and have been practicing playing various musical instruments in our courtyard, so that we can join Mr.Big’s band! We have also been exploring all the different areas in our new classroom, such as our rocket reading corner, the role play area and our courtyard!

We have been very lucky to work with an Art Teacher from JAGS throughout Autumn Term to create some mobiles. Our topic was ‘Ourselves’ and we looked at our favourite animals, creating mobiles inspired by them. Our beautiful mobiles our hanging in our classroom so feel free to take a look!

In Spring Term, we began our topic of ‘Looking after our world’. We looked at the book ‘Dear Greenpeace’ by Simon James which is about a little girl called Emily who finds a Blue Whale in her pond! We researched whales and found out lots of information about them! We also looked at how to protect our environment, learning about recycling and preventing plastic pollution!

This half term, our topic is ‘Toys’. We have been reading ‘Naughty Bus’ by Jan and Jerry Oke. We will also be setting up a toy museum in our classroom, looking at old and new toys!

Thank you to everyone who brought in a book for ‘The Great Bessemer Book Swap’. The children had a wonderful time exchanging books and reading their new books to each other! Well done to everyone who dressed up on World Book Day, your costumes were fantastic!

Take a look at some of the photos below to see what we have been up to!

In Science this half term, we will be looking at ‘Materials’. Take a look at some photos of our recent science lesson where we made a bridge for the naughty bus to cross out of different materials. Which one do you think looks the strongest?

We visited Dulwich Library. It was a fantastic opportunity to take out some more library books and also to hear some stories read by one of the librarians! We also got a chance to look at lots of books and read some with our friends.
