We were very sad to say goodbye to Miss Stevenson before Easter, but were really excited to hear about the safe arrival of her little boy. We can’t wait to meet him! We took this photo for her before she left. Can you see how much we’ve grown?
Our ‘Amazon Adventure‘ topic started our learning journey as 1AF. We’ve learned about the different layers of the rainforest, about the many different animals there, as well as some of the dangers the rainforest faces. We’re looking forward to our trip to the Horniman Museum next week where we will be finding out more about Amazonian wildlife by taking part in an ‘aquatic adaptations’ workshop. We hope the fish there will be friendly than the piranhas we’ve read about in our Rainforest books!
In our science learning this half-term we have been investigating plants. We have spent lots of time in the nature garden, observing the different plants we found there. Here are some photos of us collecting seeds and leaves we found on the ground, as a way of learning about the different species in an area and how they spread, in the same way as Charles Darwin used to do. We found lots of seeds and pods, even though it was only the start of spring. Do you know why this was?
In English next week we will start reading Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak. We will make up our story and become wild things ourselves, as we find out about Max and his voyage. Mrs Foster things we won’t need to try very hard to become wild things judging by this photo…..
We have already started learning lots of new things in Year 1 and are very excited to get stuck into the rest of the year.
This term we are learning all about ‘Looking after our World’. We have been looking at recycling and what we can do to help (thank you if you have brought in recycling for us to use in our lessons!). We have been using recycling to create collages in small groups, linking this to our English unit of Fairy Tales – Hansel and Gretel. Watch this space for fabulous pictures of our finished creations!
We even had a drama workshop about recycling!
