Highlights from Spring Term
Linking to our Topic in Spring 1 on Inspirational Woman from History, we worked on gymnastic routines to rival that of Simone Biles during our P.E lessons.
In English, we looked at the book “If all the world were” by Joseph Coelho and used this to inspire some beautiful poetry. We each bought in a special item from home to inspire us to write about what makes us feel happy.
For Science Week, we had a special Biodiversity workshop in the nature garden where we explored the creepy crawlies and microhabitats of the area.
We also had a visit from Zoolab where we were able to hold many different types of animals – from snakes, rats stick insect and many more!
For World Book Day we all loved dressing up as our favourite book characters. We thoroughly enjoyed our author visit and being able to re-home a book at the book swap. We all tried our hardest to read as much as we possibly could during this week and did a great job!
We also had a special visit from Spirit of the Wild where we were able to meet the most incredible creatures. We met owls, insects, bats, frogs and many more. Miss Rose and Una even held a tarantula! As well as some brave children who held a giant snake! It was such an amazing and informative day!
Highlights from Autumn Term
In English we have covered the traditional tale of Snow White as well as the Great Fire of London. We really enjoyed our drama lessons and getting into role!
In Maths lessons, we have covered place value, addition, subtraction, money and multiplication. We have really enjoyed getting hands on with our learning and using concrete resources, as well as pictorial representation to aid our learning.
As part of our Topic of The Great Fire of London, the whole of Year 2 took part in an immersive workshop which really bought Samuel Pepys’s diary to life. We also travelled into central London to watch FIRE! at Milton Court theatre. We sang the songs that we had been learning in school along with a live orchestra and other schools from around London. What a fantastic day we had!
We also had a visit from the London Fire Brigade, who taught us how to avoid a second fire of London happening, as well as fire safety in our school and at home.
We took what we had learned from the Great Fire of London to design our own City out of lego.
During our Design & Technology lessons, we designed and made our own breads – they were just as delicious as the bread in Thomas Farriner’s Bakery!
During Art lessons, we sketched designs for Tudor houses and then made them out of clay.
Moving into Autumn 2, our Topic was Pirates! We put on an incredible performance for the Year 2 play “Peggy the Pint-sized Pirate.” The acting, singing and dancing was better than a West End show!
In Design and Technology, we made a class pop-up book documenting our journey around the world. We made pulleys and levers to move different parts of our book, from a sitting camel to a washing great white shark!
