We had an exciting start to our half term – we made amazing pieces of landscape Art. We hope you came and saw them at the exhibition.
Our topic this term has been the Ancient Egyptians. We have had some really fun lessons including writing our name in Hieroglphys and even mummifying a tomato! We were lucky enough to have a class trip to the Petrie Museum where we got to see real life artifacts from Egypt.
In Science we have been learning about forces and magnets. We have carried out lots of different experiments including testing materials to see if they are magnetic and whether a magnet can ever be stopped.
Have a great half term and see you all in Autumn 2!
This half term has been a great half term in 3CB. In English we learnt about the importance of Green Dale as a green space in the local area. We debated whether Dulwich Hamlet should be able to build a new stadium there and the children wrote a letter to the Mayor expressing their opinion. We have learnt about the Royals in our Topic unit and Rocks in our Science unit. This half term was very special because it coincided with our class assembly, each child had to learn lines and their role and perform in front of lots of other children – scary stuff! The children did great a job and learnt a lot about the Royal family in the process. Alongside this we got to go on a trip to the National Portrait Gallery and Buckingham Palace. We finished the year with an excellent Carol Concert at a local church.
Have a great break over the holidays and see you in the new year!
This term has gone really quickly. We have been on two trips this term including a visit to the Tate Modern and to a Stone age Village.
In English we studied texts such as Black Dog by Levi Pinfold and Cinderella of the Nile by Beverley Naidoo. In Science our unit this term was light, where we conducted lots of investigations to see how light and shadows behave. In topic this term we have been learning about the country Spain. We looked at the human and physical geography, the food such as Paella and Tapas, the dances such as the Flamenco and even the great artists that have come from Spain. Our trip to the Tate Modern allowed us to view pieces by Picasso, Miro and Dali as well as view lots of other pieces of modern art. We also had a Tapas afternoon where we made our own Paella which we shared with the other Year 3 classes. Inspired by our trip to the Tate we made our very own Cubism portraits inspired by Picasso. We also created and performed our own modern Flamenco dance.
To introduce us to our next topic in Spring 2 (Stone age to Iron age) we visited a Stone age Village. Here we got to handle lots of objects and instruments that were used during that period. We learnt how to forage, hunt and cook. We also learnt how to build dens and stay warm.
