4JB 2017/18

Welcome to 4JB’s class webpage

We have had a great time getting to know each other this week in 4JB.

We have discussed our dreams and aspirations and thought about what we would like to do as a career when we grow up. Have a look at what we might become in the future!

4JB have had a busy first half term full of fun and learning!

To enhance our Viking topic, we visited the British Museum to view a real Viking hoard.

We were also lucky enough to see an interesting version of Beowulf performed at the Unicorn Theatre, to support our study of this book in English. We very much enjoyed acting out the story to get to know it really well.

Well done to everyone who brought in Viking homework. It was amazing to see how much effort was put in and how much you all had learnt! We enjoyed exhibiting our homework and sharing what we produced.

We have had a great first term in 4JB and are all now looking forward to enjoying a well deserved break over the Christmas holiday. Merry Christmas and a happy new to all of you! Here’s some pictures showing what we have been getting up to this half term.

This term we have been taking part in a project with Dulwich picture gallery. We have learnt lots about the amazing paintings and the history of the building and also took part in a brilliant workshop where we mixed our own paints using special pigment.

As part of our World War 2 topic, we visited the Imperial War Museum. We enjoyed code breaking in the ‘secret wars’ exhibition and learning about life in war time through the stories of a family.

We also had a wonderful World War 2 workshop in which we took on the role of evacuee children and got stuck in to some countryside jobs! Can you guess what we are doing?

To brighten up these winter days, we have been learning about the colourful Hindu festival of Holi. We enjoyed getting messy creating our own Holi art by throwing bright powder paint.

The Spring term is flying by! Its been a busy few weeks in 4JB and we have enjoyed our environment topic, reading the Iron Man, creating our own electrical circuits and starting to look at The Tempest in preparation for the Year 4 production next half term.

We have been back at the Dulwich Picture Gallery as part of our ongoing art project and started by producing some amazing prints based on the pictures on display in the gallery.

Here are some of our lovely colourful portraits of the Iron Man based on the book by Ted Hughes which we are loving reading in English.

We also made some models of the Iron Man with light up eyes, using our knowledge of electrical circuits.

4JB have been learning to play the flute and were lucky enough to preform at the Royal Festival Hall this half term. We loved being part of the large orchestra and performing with other primary schools.

We cant believe the Spring term is over already! It’s been a busy and exciting term and we all LOVED performing in our brilliant production of The Tempest! (The video will be uploaded to the website soon for anyone who missed it or just wants to re-live the amazing show!)

The Spring term has been eventful with some rather wintery weather! Although travel was tricky it was worth it so we could enjoy playing in the field in the snow.

As part of our Tudor topic we were lucky enough to visit The Globe Theatre. We had a tour to learn about the theatre and even a special Tempest workshop in preparation for our production.

Our work with Dulwich Picture gallery has continued this term with a workshop here in school. We designed our own galleries where we would display things that are important to us. We created architect models of our buildings, thinking about light and outside space for visitors to enjoy.

For our science topic all about states of matter, we were very lucky to have Thomas C’s mum in to help us learn how to temper chocolate. We learnt about this interesting state and enjoyed making chocolate lollies!

For Science Week we had a workshop from the Mad Scientists! We were very excited to learn about dry ice and see how magical it looks as sublimation takes place. We even had a Carbon Dioxide shower!

In the final week of term, we have been getting in the mood for Spring by creating some lovely bright flower art work based on the work of Georgia Okeeffe. Aren’t they beautiful?

Have a love Easter break and see you all in the Summer term 🙂
