Science: We have been testing different properties of materials and practising using new scientific vocabulary. We also measured the local pollution levels for ‘Clean Air Week’.
Topic: Our half termly topic is the Romans. We have used atlases to see just how big the Roman empire was! Our Roman shields look amazing and are up on display around school. We also did some Italian cooking and made a pasta sauce.

We dressed up as Victorian school children for our drama afternoon. We also dressed up for our amazing class assembly earlier this term.
Take a look at our class assembly video!

English: A trip to the London Eye kicked off this term’s London topic and inspired many great pieces of writing based around the novel ‘The London Eye Mystery’.
Science: We have been learning about the life cycles of animals. This term we have spent some time in the nature garden looking after the chickens and hunting for wildlife. We were lucky enough to see frogs but no frogspawn unfortunately. We also enjoyed a visit from ‘Ranger Stu’ who brought in an armadillo, meerkat, tarantula, snake and owl among other things.
Topic: The children have enjoyed learning about the Geography of Mexico in a creative and practical way this half term.
Book Day: We made hats and accessories based around Roald Dahl’s ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ to dress up for World Book Day. This involved an author visit and many activities.
Science Day: The day began with an amazing ‘Mad Science Workshop’, which involved some brilliant dry ice experiments. We then made our own bath fizzers in the afternoon and took part in the school marshmallow tower competition.
Art: The term began with a trip to Dulwich Picture Gallery, where we had a special tour of the gallery paintings and enjoyed a textile printing workshop. 5CR sewing club hand-stitched all of the pieces together to create a beautiful piece for display.
Topic/Science: Our Space topic linked in brilliantly with our Earth & Space topic in Science this term. We made models of the Solar System to understand how all of the planets orbited around the Sun. We also used lots of modelling using globes, torches, spherical objects etc. to understand the movement of the Moon, planets and also to explain night and day. A highlight was our trip to the Science Museum, where we learnt a lot about space exploration. We especially enjoyed seeing Tim Peake’s Soyuz capsule.
Art/DT: We made moving toys using cams mechanisms in DT. We also used a variety of mediums to create some amazing space artwork, which can be seen on display in school.
We finished off the term with a trip to the Herne Hill Velodrome as part of Bike & Health week. We learned some new mountain biking skills and got to play lots of games. A few non-riders learned to ride a bike in just 1 afternoon!
