Nature Garden – October 

We have been reading the book We’re Going on a Bear Hunt in nursery, so we visited the nature garden and we went on our very own bear hunt! The children also made cucumber sandwiches which we took along with us. We had a fantastic time in the nature garden and also on our return where we had a carpet session to share our experiences.

Celebration Day – October

This term the theme for Celebration Day in the Early Years was ‘Children of the World’. Butterfly Class decided to dedicate their classroom to Ghana in west Africa. The children enjoyed many fun activities, such as making fruit kebabs, musical shakers and designing their own kente print. The classroom was spirit filled with lots of music and colour.

Here are some highlights from our Celebration Day.

 

Shapes – November

In Butterfly Class, we have been learning about shapes. The children have been looking at shapes in the environment and using shapes to build and construct. Here are some of the models we have been making.

 

Big Write – November 

This half term, we have been engaging in some fun learning activities. Butterfly Class have been doing the ‘Big Write’ where we practice writing taught sounds and letters from our name on a big scale outside. Here are some photos from a recent session.

Winter Fair – December 

As a part of the Winter Fair, Butterfly Class made their own 2018 calendars to be sold at the Winter Fair. The children enjoyed choosing colours to design their calendars and they engaged in conversations among themselves about the days of the week and the months of the year.  Here are some pictures from the day.                                                                                                                                      

Nature Garden – December

Butterfly Class have been reading the Christmas story called the ‘Stick Man’, so we decided to go to the nature garden to collect sticks to make our own stick man. The children really enjoyed the activity and discussed what their stick man would look like. Here are some highlights from the session.

Class Party – December

Butterfly Class had a great time at their end of year class party. We played lots of games and did lots of dancing, many of the children also won prizes. Butterfly Class would like to wish you a Happy Holidays and a Great New Year. 

Now Press Play – January 

Butterfly Class took part in ‘Now Press Play’ where the children put on wireless headphones and they become a main character in a story, meeting people, discovering places and solving problems in an educational adventure. During this session, the children enjoyed acting out the story of the ‘Gingerbread Man’.

Maths Celebration Day – January

The topic for the first Celebration Day of the year was ‘Maths’. Both the children and adults engaged in fun activities setup both inside the classroom and in the outdoor area. Here are the highlights of the day.

Maths Challenge – February

This term Butterfly Class have been introduced to a weekly Maths Challenge. The classroom is setup with various activities which enables the children to use the skills they have learnt to complete the challenge. This week’s challenge was to find two groups of objects that have the same amount.

World Book Day – March

World Book Day took place on Thursday 1st March. The children really enjoyed dressing up as their favourite book character and listening to a range of stories. Here are some pictures of the children enjoying the day.

Planting – March

Butterfly Class have been reading the story of Jack and the Beanstalk, the children decided to plant their own beans. Some children planted their bean in soil and some in cotton wool, they then made predictions to see which bean would grow quicker. 

Handwriting – March

Butterfly Class have been practicing their handwriting and are making great progress with their pen control and applying their phonic knowledge.

 

Science Week – March

Butterfly Class really enjoyed Science week. They carried out many fun and engaging experiments and used their knowledge to make predictions. Here are the highlights of what they got up to. 

 

 

Minibeast Hunt – May

The children enjoyed taking part in a minibeast hunt in the nature garden. They each had a tick sheet and ticked off the minibeasts they could find. We even brought some minibeasts back to class so we could have a closer look at them. Here are the highlights of the day.  

 

Celebration Day – May

This term’s celebration was based on the theme of minibeasts with additional creative activities. Each classroom from Nursery through to Reception represented a popular artist and the children had the opportunity to create a picture using that artist’s ideas and methods. The children really enjoyed participating in activities both indoors and adults. Here are the highlights from the day. 

 

Jolly Foresters – June

The children enjoyed participating in Jolly Foresters activities in the nature garden where the children spent time playing outside, learning and engaging with nature. Here are some highlights from the session. 

 

Carnival – June/July

The school’s theme for this year’s Carnival 2018 was ‘Once Upon A Carnival’. The Nursery decided to focus on ‘Superheroes’. We  read many stories about Superheroes and discussed what Superheroes we liked.  The children also enjoyed many fun activities such as making shields, shakers and masks. Here are the highlights of what the children did to prepare for the carnival.
