We hope you enjoy looking at some of the things we have been doing so far this term. Stay tuned for further updates of an exciting year ahead!
We have been learning to draw portrait pictures of ourselves and our friends. To begin we practised sketching, shading and drawing in our sketch books. We had to look at our friends faces carefully in order to ensure we got all of their features correct. We really enjoyed this activity. In literacy we have been writing poems using similes, metaphors, personification, adjectives, adverbs and strong verbs. Our poems were about a Roman Soldier because our topic this term is Revolting Romans. We enjoyed planning, editing and presenting our final poems using the poetic devices we learnt. Some of our poems are very gruesome! Some of our fantastic poetry has been displayed in the upstairs corridor. If you would like to read some please feel free to stop as you’re walking by. This year we are going to be learning to speak some basic Spanish phrases and to count up to 15. In class 5RE we are lucky enough to have some Spanish speakers to help us! We have been looking at the myth of Midas the King in literacy. We watched a video of the story, retold the story and acted it out in groups. We really enjoyed planning our characters words, preparing props and acting out the scenes.
5RE have been very busy this term, take a look below to see all the exciting things we have been up to…
Class 5RE and 5AC had a wonderful time visiting the V&A museum this term. We explored lots of Victorian objects, artefacts and art and we even got to see original William Morris designs (although we still thought ours were better)! The children enjoyed sketching designs of their favourite objects and finding out lots of information about them. Some of the children even got a chance to dress up as Victorians, but I don’t think the girls were very eager to wear that big skirt on the bus home!
There were even computers available for us to do some further research.
5RE Class Assembly
All the children from 5RE worked exceptionally hard to prepare for our assembly, and all did a fantastic job. Don’t be surprised if you see them all in west end one day!
The children loved acting in the Victorian school but weren’t sure if they would like Ms Beard to be quite as strict!
The children really looked in character with their fabulous outfits.
Hats off to all our little stars.
The Little Match Girl
All this term we have been looking at the little match girl during our literacy unit. The children have really enjoyed writing alternative endings, character descriptions and modern retells of the story. Here you can see the children acting out different parts of the story.
The London Eye
As part of our unit about ‘London’, class 5RE and 5AC had a wonderful day at the London Eye. Check out our photos below to see all the fun we had and landmarks we discovered.
Thumbs up for the London Eye!
Eagerly waiting in line for our turn!
Room with a view
All smiles, what a fantastic day of fun.
