We have really enjoyed our first week settling into Year One. Take a look at some of the pictures below to see what we have been up to!
We have enjoyed exploring our new classroom, trying on outfits from the dressing up box, building in our construction area, writing and playing in the home corner and investigating in the maths area. We have also been busy completing our landscape art project in the style of Paul Klee.
We have also explored the outdoor area and have been experimenting with water, sand and the construction equipment.
We have had a really exciting second half term in 1LC!
We have continued to learn lots in Literacy, Maths and Phonics, including reading the stories ‘Beegu’ (take a look at our own alien sock puppets below!), ‘The Magic Bed’ and ‘The Yeti and the Bird’ – we even spotted a real Yeti wandering the corridors of Bessemer and made our own gingerbread men! We also learnt a poem off by heart and Miss Corbett was able to record us doing our own performance.
We have also been conducting our own science experiments, making our own equipment to measure the weather and finding out more about temperature and the seasons.
In ICT we have been learning how to programme devices including giving the Bee Bots instructions. We have also been learning more about Christian celebrations and the Nativity and made our own stained glass windows.
We have also been lucky enough to go on two trips to Dulwich Picture Gallery for a storytelling session, where we found out more about some of the paintings hanging there, and to the Unicorn to see ‘The Snow Child’. Everyone agreed it was a lovely play and we enjoyed boogeying along to the songs. We were also able to use these opportunities to find out more about the attractions in our local area.
Towards the end of the term, we held a winter carol concert and sang a few Christmas classics.
