Welcome back to Autumn 2! Our new topic is Pirates. We had an amazing Pirate Day to start our new half term.
We are also about to start rehearsals for our play ‘Peggy the Pint Sized Pirate’.
Thank you so much to everyone who came to watch our play in December. We had a brilliant time learning all of the songs and rehearsing for it. We hope you enjoyed watching the play! Here are some photos of us dressed up in our pirate outfits!
This half term in Topic, we have been focusing on geography. We have learned about the seven continents and five oceans. We wrote about our own journey around the globe visiting each continent and talked about what we would see there. We also looked at the history of Pirates and studied some of the most infamous pirates, such as Anne Bonny and Blackbeard.
In DT, we made a Pirate Pop Up book with moving parts!
In Maths, we have looked at addition and subtraction and money this half term. In Spring, we will be moving on to multiplication and division!
In English, we have looked at ‘The Pirate Cruncher’ by Jonny Duddle and ‘The Bear and the Piano’ by David Litchfield.
This half term, our topic was ‘Famous Faces’. We began looking at Florence Nightingale and learned about her time as a nurse in Scutari Hospital. We learned about her life and what inspired her to become a nurse. We performed our class assembly and acted out Florence’s life. We also took part in a special Florence Nightingale workshop.
We also looked at Frida Kahlo and created some artwork inspired by her self portraits. Take a look at our artwork below. They are also on display in our classroom!
In English we looked at the book ‘The Pea and the Princess’ and the poem ‘If all the World Were…’ by Joseph Coelho. The children wrote their own narrative poems inspired by this.
In Science, we have been looking at ‘Plants’ and investigating what a seed needs to germinate.
