Topic – Ancient Egypt
During our Topic lesson on Ancient Egypt this half term, we learnt about Mummification and tried to use the same process to mummify our Egyptian heads – tomatoes! It was really interesting and we learned a lot.
Our trip to the Petrie Museum.
We went to the Petrie Museum in Central London as part of our Ancient Egypt Topic lessons. It was great to see lots of real life tablets with hieroglyphics, that were thousands of years old. We even saw a skeleton in a burial pot and a mummified head!
English – The Princess’ Blankets
One of the books we read in English was ‘The Princess’ Blankets’ by Carol Ann Duffy. As a introduction to the book, we went to the Nature Garden to help us think of different adjectives to describe the environment. We used our senses of sight, smell, touch and hearing to generate noun phrases.
Topic – The Royals
We’re really enjoying learning about the current British Royal family. In one lesson, we were learning about the British Royal family tree. It was really interesting to learn who was related to who and to also learn their royal titles.
Keeping fit with Joe Wicks
We took part in the national campaign to keep healthy by doing a 5 minute exercise routine that was happening live all over the UK!
Science – Rocks
In our Science lessons this term, we are learning about rocks. During one lesson, we became archaeologists and did different activities, including excavating chocolate chips from cookies and creating our own fossils.
PSHE – Road Safety
It’s really important to learn how to be safe when being out on the road. We discussed how to cross the road safely, then we practised our learning by actually crossing the road outside our school.
FITNESS WEEK – 3JK exercising with Joe Wicks
We really enjoyed joining in with Fitness week and especially joining hundreds of children across the country, who took part in the live link, exercising with Joe Wicks.
3JK’s trip to the National Portrait Gallery
As part of our learning for our Topic on the Royals, we visited the National Portrait Gallery to see how different artists have painted and drawn lots of portraits of Royals over hundreds of years. We loved being able to draw our own versions of Royal portraits. It was a great day and we were so tired on the journey back to school!
3JK will like to wish everyone a very Happy Christmas and a Joyous New Year. We look forward to seeing you in the new term.
Year 3’s Spanish Food afternoon.
We enjoyed a great afternoon cooking Spanish food, as part of our learning on our Topic Spain. As a class, we prepared the ingredients for a Spanish dish called a tortilla, which is a Spanish omelette made with potatoes, salad peppers and onions. We practised our cooking skills including chopping up vegetables and mixing together the other ingredients.
Year 3 are lucky enough to be able to go on 2 trips this term. Both of the trips are linked to the topics of Spain and the Stone Age.
3JK’s visit to the Tate Modern.
We had the opportunity to visit the Tate Modern in Central London. We went to the museum to look at the artwork of Spanish artists who used styles like Cubism and doodles in their art. We were impressed by artists like Picasso, Dali and Miro.
3JK’s visit to the Celtic Village.
During this half term, we have visited a Celtic Village, to start our learning on the Stone Age. We enjoyed taking part in the den-building and hunting and gathering activities, discussing how people during the Stone Age made their tools and weapons. We even saw how fire was made – which was amazing!
