Well done for a fantastic first half term!
It has been a lovely first half term in Year 5. Thanks to everyone for your hard work. Here are some pictures of what we’ve been up to!
Look at our amazing Roman shields…
We compared and contrasted Roman Gods and made our own Top Trumps game.
We learned about Boudicca’s rebellion and had the chance to paint our faces with tribal patterns like Iceni warriors!
In the last 2 weeks of term we focused on poetry and produced some amazing poems of our own. Here are just a few brilliant examples for you to read, full of beautiful imagery and effective poetic devices.
In computing, we have been looking at ciphers. Here we are sending Semaphore messages!
In PSHE we have been discussing role models and have talked about the people who inspire us. We also discussed the importance of acknowledging role models from different genders and ethnicities and learnt about the amazing contributions of the Windrush Generation and their descendants. Here are some of our role models.
We were inspired to produce some bright and colourful nature themed art when we read a book called ‘The Promise.’ This book is all about welcoming nature into our city.
Enjoy a restful half term, stay safe and well and see you in Autumn 2.
Autumn term 1
We are really glad to be back together in school, after what’s felt like a very long time! The children have settled back in amazingly well and seem to be having a lot of fun being back with their friends. Everyone is getting used to all of the new routines, which keep us safe, and things are starting to feel a bit more normal.
It’s been a lovely first full week in 5JB. We have been getting to know each other through lots of games and PSHE lessons. We’ve also started our first English text ‘Julius Zebra’ and have been working on Place Value in our maths groups. In the afternoons we have been working on some art work for the school’s art exhibition and have begun to look at our exciting topic for this half term; Roman Britain.
Here is a sneak peak of some of our beautiful artwork for the exhibition, based around the theme of ‘Identity’:
Here we are working in small groups to create timelines, which helped us understand where the Roman period fits in history.
