We started this term writing about the Battle of Marathon. To fully understand the how the Athenians managed to win this battle, we took got into role battling against the mighty Persians (6YH)!
In PE, we have been making short routines which show a range of balances. We have been working on mirroring our partner in positions of varying heights.
Our topic this term is looking at the ancient civilisation of The Maya. In English lessons, we will be reading ‘The Rain Player’ by David Wisniewski. The tale, which is set in an Ancient Mayan city, tells of a boy who must defeat the Rain God in a ball game to save his people from disaster.
This term we are learning about Ancient Greece. In English lessons, we are reading various Greek myths and creating poems based on some of the beasts and heroes we meet. To support our writing, we took part in a workshop with Liz Brand. We loved getting into role as Athenian boys and girls who were about to be thrown into the labyrinth as a sacrifice to the Minotaur.
These photos give a snapshot of some of our lessons in the afternoon. We have been busy designing our own Greek sandals and covering our playground in timelines. In Science, we turned off all the lights to investigate shadows and how they change in size and clarity. We also made some kaleidoscopes.
