We will be updating our page throughout the year with pictures of the children involved in various learning opportunities.
We have had a great first two weeks in nursery, here are some of the highlights. It’s been lots of fun.
Meet our AM and PM Butterfly Classes!
The children have been reading the story of Owl Babies this week. As a part of the story, the children visited the Nature Garden to collect sticks, twigs and leaves to make nests for the owls. The children really enjoyed themselves, here are some highlights from their visit.
This week the children have been reading the story of We’re Going on a Bear Hunt. The children made pictures of bears using 2D shapes. They really enjoyed the activity and they were able to name and describe the shapes they used. Here are some of their creations.
The theme for Celebration Day this term was ‘Children of the World’, where both the indoor and outdoor areas reflect activities from all over the world. Butterfly Class turned the classroom into Ghana in West Africa. The children enjoyed engaging in many activities including making fruit kebabs and making a traditional dish called ‘Fufu’. Here are some highlights from the day.
This half-term Butterfly Class decided to turn their role-play area into a hair salon. The children have really been engaged in imaginative play, where they have to taken turns to play different roles in the salon.
Butterfly Class have been reading the story of Whatever Next, which is about a teddy bear who travels to the moon with his friend. As a part of the story, the children decided that they wanted to make jam sandwiches for their own picnic on the moon. The children demonstrated great cooking skills as they independently used a knife and other ingredients to make the sandwiches.
Butterfly Class enjoy exploring the outdoor area, where they take part in various activities. Here are some pictures of how they learn in the outdoor area.
Our sound of the week this week is the sound ‘o’. The children have been looking at objects that begin with the sound ‘o’ and they have also been practicing to write the sound.
Nursery held a Maths workshop this week, where both classrooms were set up with various engaging maths activities. Both the parents and the children enjoyed the day and it also gave the parents the opportunity to witness how their children engage with maths in the classroom.
We took a small group of children to the Nature Garden to look after the chickens. The children enjoyed the task of cleaning out the coop, changing the bedding and topping up the food for the chickens.
Nursery held a mark making workshop this week, where both the classrooms were set up with various engaging mark making activities. Both the parents and the children enjoyed the day and it also gave the parents the opportunity to witness how their children engage with writing opportunities.
To crown the end of term, both Nursery classes carried out a Winter Performance. The children really enjoyed singing in front of their parents and this was followed by eating yummy mince pies. The following day, Butterfly Class held a class party. It was lots of fun and the children enjoyed dancing and playing various games.

To kick start the year, the children participated in an ‘Around the World’ dance/drama workshop. This gave the children the opportunity to be creative in the way that they move and travel using space. Here are the highlights.
To celebrate the Chinese New Year, the children enjoyed many activities, including chopping vegetables to make Stir-Fry noodles and also carrying out their own dragon dance.
This term, the theme for our Early Years Celebration Day was Maths. Both the indoor and outdoor environment was setup with various creative activities for the children to engage with. Here are the snippets.
The children really enjoyed World Book Day 2020! The children dressed up as their favourite book character and came into school in some amazing outfits. Here are the snippets.
This term, we kindly asked for parents/carers to volunteer to come in and share a story with their child’s class. It was lovely to see many parents come in to read to the children. Butterfly Class say a big thank you once again.
Butterfly Class have been reading the story ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’, so as a part of Science Week the children decided to plant beans. We had a class discussion about what plants need to grow and how we can care for them. The children also designed their own castles in line with the story line.
As a part of Sports Relief 2020, the children came dressed to school in sportswear. The children enjoyed participating in exercise activities. Here are the children in action.
