Moonbeam 2020

Moonbeam Class

Welcome to the Moonbeam Class webpage.  We’ve had a busy first week in Reception learning all about our school rules and meeting our class puppet, Sully.  We have also been busy making new friends and exploring all the different learning areas inside and out.

Our outside climbing equipment has been very popular – only for the daring!

There has been lots of imaginative play in our outside area.

Not to mention all of our exciting areas in the classroom.  We have been busy exploring our home corner, creative table, maths area, construction area, writing area, reading area and much more.

On Wednesday we took our first trip to nature garden.  We can’t wait to go back next week for Forest School.  Sadly we didn’t catch any frogs this time.

Everyone in Reception has been extremely excited to meet the illustrator and author, Axel Scheffler.   Axel spoke to us about the process behind his illustrations and talked to us about how he created the world renowned character, The Gruffalo.   We were even lucky enough to have a ‘draw along’ with him and created our own Gruffalo sketch.  Axel’s Gruffalo drawing for us in hanging in pride of place inside early years.

We have welcomed some living creatures to our classroom.  We have been observing some tadpoles and talking about their life cycle.  Our caterpillars arrived a week a go and have already grown loads, we can’t wait to see what happens next.  We have been exploring different minibeasts too and even found a centipede and stag beetle in the nature garden.

Here we are getting active during our PE sessions in the hall.

We read the story ‘The Vole and the Mole’ and met the author Iza Trapini on Zoom.  Iza shared a story with us and answered all of our questions about being an author.

Our favourite time of the week is when we go to the Nature Garden.  Climbing, hunting, creating, swinging, pulling, building we like to get stuck into everything.
