Welcome to Friends at Bessemer.

If you have just joined us, F@B is your Parent Teacher Association (PTA) – a group of volunteer parents/carers whose aim is to create events which provide opportunities for Bessemer families to socialise and enjoy themselves, and in doing so raise money for the school. And the more people involved with F@B the merrier.

Bike Ride

On 9th June, 15 brave Bessemer parents cycled from Bessemer to Brighton to raise money for the school. We have raised over £2,000 so far – thank you to all the organisers, cyclists, support drivers and to everyone who donated to support them. You can still donate until the end of June 2019. https://mydonate.bt.com/fundraisers/danwhite1

Science Fair

This year we supported the schools science week by running an exciting science fair.

School’s out for Summer!

What a great end to the year – the Summer Fair raised over £3000! The day wasn’t possible without people’s support and generous contributions, so thank you to everyone who helped make the fair the success and fun day in the sun that it turned out to be.

Sponsored Bike Ride – New Bike Storage

Bessemer was lucky enough to be chosen as a Sustrans ‘Bike It’ school, and loads of teachers and pupils are cycling to school.  So many that we sometimes don’t have enough space to put all the bikes!  We are going to raise money for improved bike storage by doing a Sponsored Bike Ride and Scoot during National Bike Week .  If you can help with organisation in advance or help out on the day, please contact Henrietta Collier (etta.collier@gmail.com) to volunteer.  We’ll need help from cyclists and non-cyclists, with refreshments, marshalling the event and monitoring our total distance cycled.

Oliver Jeffers Illustration for Bessemer Grange

In December 2013, we were very excited to launch a unique collaboration between Bessemer Grange and the internationally renowned children’s author and illustrator Oliver Jeffers.

Oliver Jeffers is one of the most popular authors of our children’s generation, with award winning books including How to Catch a Star, Lost and Found, Up and Down, The Way Back Home and The Heart and Bottle.  His latest book – the Day the Crayons Quit, in collaboration with Drew Daywalt – is a New York Times #1 Bestseller.

The school is extremely honoured that Oliver Jeffers created a unique artwork for Bessemer Grange based on our school song.  He took inspiration from the verse about the old oak tree, planted to commemorate the engineering achievements of Henry Bessemer, and brought it to life as a watchful guardian of every child at the school.
This is a truly unique and special artwork for the school, and we are very grateful to Oliver for taking the time to create it, as well as a new F@B logo.  F@B have used the logo on tshirts, tote bags and egg cups over the past year – look out for more at future F@B events.

Supporting F@B
