Sunshine 2020

Hello and welcome to Sunshine Class!

We’ve had a busy first week in Reception learning all about our school rules and meeting our class puppet, Zippy.  We have also been busy making new friends and exploring all the different learning areas inside and out.

Our outside climbing equipment has been very popular – only for the daring!

On Fridays we explore the Nature Garden across the road. We have so much fun playing on the swing,

looking for mini beasts and frogs. We’ve only

caught one frog so far!

Everyone in Reception has been extremely excited to meet the illustrator and author, Axel Scheffler.   Axel spoke to us about the process behind his illustrations and talked to us about how he created the world renowned character, The Gruffalo.   We were even lucky enough to have a ‘draw along’ with him and created our own Gruffalo sketch.  Axel’s Gruffalo drawing for us in hanging in pride of place inside early years.

We were also very lucky to meet the author, Iza Trapani and listened to her exciting story ‘The Vole and the Troll’ on Zoom.  Iza shared with us how she developed her characters and answered all of our questions about being an author. Sunshine Class then had a go at creating their own trolls using clay on the creative table.

During the Spring Term, we have made patterns using different types of fruit and

delicious gingerbread pals for us to nibble on.

We have welcomed some living creatures to our classroom.  We have been observing some tadpoles and talking about their life cycle.  Our caterpillars arrived a week a go and have already grown loads, we can’t wait to see what happens next.  We have been exploring different minibeasts too and even found a centipede and stag beetle in the nature garden.
